Bubble Solution
Whether you're creating bubbles in your backyard, classroom,
or at your next family gathering, our tried-and-true bubble solution recipe will help you create bigger, stronger, longer-lasting bubbles.
Ingredients/Supplies:
-
1 gallon water
-
1 cup glycerin
-
1 cup Dawn® dish soap (Original Blue works best)
-
1 Tbsp cornstarch
-
1 Tbsp baking powder
-
Bubble wands, ropes, etc.
Why these ingredients?
Water
Water is the base of the solution. If your tap water is especially hard (high in minerals), distilled water may produce even better bubbles.
Dawn® Dish Soap
Not all dish soaps are created equal! Original Blue Dawn consistently produces durable, flexible bubble films that are less likely to pop. Other soaps may work, but results can vary.
Glycerin
Glycerin helps slow evaporation, making the bubble film more flexible and longer-lasting. This is one of the biggest secrets to creating giant bubbles.
Cornstarch
Cornstarch adds a little extra strength to the bubble film, helping giant bubbles stretch farther before popping.
Baking Powder
A small amount of baking powder helps stabilize the solution and can improve bubble performance, especially outdoors.
Mudpuppy Tips:
-
Giant bubbles work best on cool, humid days with a light breeze.
-
Let the wind do the work! Instead of waving your wand quickly, slowly walk or gently lift the wand into the breeze.
-
Hot, dry weather causes bubbles to evaporate more quickly.
-
If your solution sits for several days, simply give it a gentle stir before using.
-
The bigger the wand, the bigger the potential bubble—but patience is the real secret!
